Virgin Voyages Cabin Guide: Insider to Mega Rockstar

By Randy

Choosing Your Cabin

Every cabin on Virgin Voyages was designed by Tom Dixon’s studio, and it shows. Even the entry-level Insider feels intentional — no sad cruise ship beige here. But the differences between categories are real, and picking the right one can make or break your voyage.

Here’s the honest breakdown.

The Insider (Interior)

Best for: Sailors who spend all day out on the ship and just need a place to sleep.

The Insider is a windowless interior cabin, but it doesn’t feel like one. Mood lighting, the signature Seabed (a sofa that transforms into a bed), and clever storage make it feel bigger than its 100 sq ft.

What you get:

  • Seabed (sofa by day, bed by night)
  • Full-size shower with great water pressure
  • USB and outlet charging everywhere
  • Mood lighting with multiple settings
  • Smart TV with streaming capability

What you don’t get:

  • Natural light
  • A view
  • Much floor space when the bed is down

Price range: From ~$100/night, making it the most accessible way onto a VV ship.

Our take: If you’re the type who’s only in the cabin to shower, change, and sleep, the Insider is a smart pick. The money you save can go toward drinks, spa treatments, or a nicer Shore Thing.

The Sea View (Window)

Best for: Sailors who want natural light but don’t need outdoor space.

Same footprint as the Insider, but with a porthole window that lets in natural light. It’s a small upgrade that makes a surprising difference when you wake up.

What you get (above Insider):

  • Porthole window with ocean views
  • Natural light throughout the day

Our take: The price jump from Insider to Sea View is usually modest. If the idea of a windowless cabin gives you pause, this solves it without breaking the budget.

The Sea Terrace (Balcony)

Best for: Most sailors. This is the sweet spot.

The Sea Terrace is the most popular cabin for good reason. You get a private balcony with a hammock — yes, a hammock — and significantly more space than the interior categories.

What you get (above Sea View):

  • Private balcony with seating
  • Hammock on the balcony (the signature VV touch)
  • Larger room footprint (~225 sq ft including balcony)
  • More storage space

Why it matters: Having your own outdoor space changes the experience. Morning coffee watching the ocean. A quiet moment between dinner and the show. A hammock nap with sea breeze. These are the moments people remember.

Deck selection tip: Mid-ship cabins on decks 8-12 tend to have the least motion. Higher decks = better views but more sway. Lower decks = smoother ride but closer to public areas (read: potential noise).

Our take: If your budget allows it, the Sea Terrace is the category we recommend most. The hammock alone is worth the upgrade.

Rockstar Quarters (Suite)

Best for: Celebrations, special occasions, or anyone who wants the VIP treatment.

This is where Virgin Voyages really separates from the pack. Rockstar Quarters aren’t just bigger cabins — they’re a different experience.

What you get (above Sea Terrace):

  • Rockstar Agent — a dedicated concierge for your entire voyage
  • Richard’s Rooftop access — the exclusive sundeck reserved for Rockstars, with its own bar and hot tub
  • Priority boarding and departure
  • In-room bar setup
  • Premium bath products
  • Larger balcony and living space
  • Peek-a-boo shower (yes, it looks into the bedroom)
  • Music room access with guitars and vinyl

Richard’s Rooftop is the real differentiator. It’s a private outdoor space on the top deck that’s never crowded, has its own bartender, and offers the best views on the ship. On sea days, it’s paradise.

Our take: If you’re celebrating something — anniversary, milestone birthday, honeymoon — the Rockstar experience is worth every penny. The dedicated agent alone removes all friction from the trip.

Mega Rockstar Quarters (Mega Suite)

Best for: The ultimate splurge. Groups. People who want the best of everything.

These are the penthouse suites of the fleet. Multi-room layouts, hot tubs on private terraces, and spaces that rival luxury hotel suites.

What you get (above Rockstar):

  • Massive square footage — some are 1,000+ sq ft
  • Private hot tub on your terrace
  • Outdoor shower
  • Full living and dining areas
  • Some suites feature the Catamaran Net — a net that extends over the ocean from your balcony
  • Everything from Rockstar, amplified

Specific suites to know:

  • Massive Suite: The largest, with panoramic views and a full living area
  • Fab Suite: Corner location with wrap-around terrace
  • Posh Suite: Two stories in some configurations

Our take: If you’re traveling with a group or want a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the Mega Rockstar suites are genuinely special. The private hot tub with ocean views is hard to top.

Choosing the Right Deck

Beyond cabin category, your deck and location matter:

  • Forward cabins: Can feel more motion in rough seas, but offer unique bow views
  • Mid-ship: Least motion, closest to elevators and central amenities
  • Aft cabins: Great wake views from balcony, slightly more motion than mid-ship
  • Lower decks (5-8): Smoother ride, closer to restaurants and entertainment
  • Upper decks (9-14): Better views, closer to pools and sun deck, more sway
